Asian Gymnastics Union convenes

The Executive Committee in full of the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) was convened by its President A-Rahman Al-Shatri of Qatar, February 3 – 4 in Incheon (KOR). Incheon was chosen for the meeting as it will host the Asian Games from September 19 – October 4, 2014.
A new Secretary General, Mr Mohamed Saeed (QAT), was elected following the resignation of Mr Mohamed Al-Naimi, who stepped down for professional reasons. Financial reports, 2011 accounts and the 2012 budged were also approved.
Among topics on the order of the day were AGU development projects. President Al-Shatri invited members to give precedence to federations not having held courses last year, those hosting the Union Championships, and to those in a position to provide the best possible conditions.
It was with particular interest that the Executive Committee followed a report given by General Director Mr Jacques Janssen of Janssen + Fritsen, with whom the AGU has recently signed a sponsoring agreement for the manufacturing of gymnastics apparatus. A partnership package was equally presented to members of German manufacturer Eurotramp.

Members conferred extensively with the AGU Commission over the 5th Asian Championships in Artistic Gymnastics, scheduled to be held November 10 – 15, 2012 in Putian (CHN). The Executive Committee held the draw for the Junior Asian Championships in Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics, slated for March 11 – 14, 2102 in Thailand.Notícia FIG na íntegra, aqui.

Support a Young Gymnast

Part of being a parent necessarily involves being interested and concerned in all aspects of a child’s life. But how much interest and how much concern should a mom or dad show for their young one? It can be difficult sometimes, and go against the grain of parental instincts, but parents need to allow their children a modicum of independence for them to thrive, find their true selves, develop sufficiency and lead lives of their own outside the home.
A dilemma arises when parents become overly involved in their children’s lives, and particularly in the sports that they play. When this happens, the child will start to feel like a puppet, with his or her parents playing the puppeteer. Youngsters in this situation lose the interest and drive that initially motivated them to participate in a sport. Having lost all sense of control that they have over any decision involving their athletic lives, they will find less pleasure and more discontent, eventually causing them to abandon their sport.
This type of conduct in some parents and coaches has proved to have a negative effect on the youngster’s athletic life. Imagine the humiliation and loss of morale a young athlete experiences every time his or her parents and coaches bellow stridently at judges, or even at the athlete for a poorly executed move at practice or competition.

 From Analysis to Coaching - The Need for Objective Feedback

The coaching process is about enhancing performance by providing feedback about the performance to the athlete or team. Researchers have shown that human observation and memory, wonderful though they are, are not reliable enough to provide accurate and objective information for high-performance athletes. Objective measuring tools are necessary to enable the feedback process. These can take the form of video analysis systems post-event, both biomechanical or computerised notation systems, or the use of in-event systems.
Hand and computerised notation systems provide the same sort of data, both intrinsically being the same process, and they are used for the same purposes: analysis of movement, tactical evaluation, technical evaluation and statistical compilation. The recent developments in both computer and video technologies have transformed the approach of performance analysts and, consequently, their use in the coaching process. To ensure that accurate and reliable data are gathered for analysis for the coach, considerable training of the operatives is necessary, making the application of any of these systems more and more a specialism.

Trampoline Academy turns to Morocco

The fourth FIG Academy for 2012 was a Level 1 Trampoline Academy in Marrakech, Morocco. It began towards the end of the Level 3 Academy held in Venezuela and finished on February 12.

This Academy was held for the five FIG member federations of Zone 1 of Africa (North Africa). Participation was partially funded by the FIG through the Development Fund for that zone. As always, the content included theory lectures on biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, psychology and planning and technical lectures on Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-trampoline.

The Academy was attended by 20 coaches from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. Libya attended an Academy for the first time and now becomes the 108th FIG member federation to participate in the Academy programme.

Planning Balance Beam Workouts During Competitive Season

Cori Cunningham. Cori is the Team Coordinator at Atlantic Gymnastics Training Center in Portsmouth, NH. She is a former competitor and Grad assistant at The University of New Hampshire.
During my own competitive gymnastics career I used to dread going to beam every day knowing that we would be expected to do huge numbers of stuck routines. I would also dread meet day because even though I had numbers of stuck routines tucked under my belt I was still not confident in my ability to hit a routine under pressure. As a coach I vowed to make an effort to get my gymnasts to look forward to coming to beam. My other goal is for them to present as confident and competent beam workers on meet day.
The four themes that I use to structure my competitive season workouts are as follows:

1 – PRACTICE WHAT YOU WANT TO GET GOOD AT
2 – PRACTICE UNDER PRESSURE
3 – FIND THE WEAKNESSES AND TARGET THEM
4 – ALWAYS PUT THEM TO A TEST SO THEY CAN MEASURE THEIR OWN SUCCESS

Juízes FIG fora das provas da FGP

A FGP comunica no seu site que Portugal tem vários membros de Comités Técnicos e outros órgãos da Federação Internacional de Ginástica (FIG) e da União Europeia de Ginástica (UEG).
Essas pessoas, a partir do momento em que são eleitas, transformam-se em autoridades da FIG ou da UEG e saem da alçada disciplinar da FGP em matéria desportiva.
Na hipotética situação de alguma dessas pessoas desempenhar funções de ajuizamento em competições organizadas em território nacional, poderia haver aqui um potencial conflito entre a FGP e a FIG ou a UEG, se fosse necessário agir disciplinarmente.
Porque tal situação de potencial conflito não é, para nós, admissível nem suportável, a partir desta data não é permitida a convocação de membros de órgãos da FIG ou da UEG para quaisquer funções de ajuizamento (incluindo direção técnica da competição e júri superior) de competições organizadas pela FGP, pelas Associações Territoriais de Ginástica ou clubes.

Distrital DMT - Lisboa

Segundo o site oficial do SCP, o Sporting foi o grande dominador do Campeonato Distrital de Mini Duplo Trampolim, que se realizou no último sábado em Mem-Martins, renovando a conquista da Taça da Associação de Ginástica de Lisboa.
Em termos colectivos, o Sporting venceu os escalões de juniores masculinos, juvenis femininas, juvenis masculinos, iniciados masculinos e infantis masculinos, com os iniciados femininos a serem segundos classificados e os infantis femininos sextos.

The draw of the FIG Olympic competitions will be conducted on February 24, 2012, 1:00 pm at the FIG headquarters in Lausanne (SUI). All four Technical Presidents, representing Men’s & Women’s Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics will attend and supervise the draw.
According to the quota allocated by the IOC, Gymnastics will be represented in London (GBR) with a total of 324 athletes: 98x2 for Artistic, 96 for Rhythmic and 32 places for Trampoline Gymnastics.
The FIG, founded in 1881, participated in the Olympic Games since its restoration in 1896.

A FGP comunica que com a entrada em funções da presente gestão da Federação de Ginástica de Portugal, passou a haver um Diretor Técnico Nacional com a responsabilidade de coordenação técnica de todas as disciplinas gímnicas.

Para promover a operacionalização dos projetos e atividades dessas várias disciplinas foi assegurado o concurso, a tempo parcial, de um/a técnico por cada uma das disciplinas, num total de sete, sendo que a operacionalização dos projetos e atividades relativos ao TeamGym é enquadrada pela pessoa responsável pela Ginástica para Todos.

Maracaibo (VEN), February 1 – 8, 2012

Venezuela hosted the 12th Academy for Trampoline Gymnastics and the 120th Academy overall in Maracaibo during the first week of February. This Academy was conducted specifically for the Spanish speaking countries of the Americas and for the coaches who had previously successfully completed Level 1 and Level 2 Academies. The attendance of the coaches from the Spanish speaking federations of the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU) was partially funded by the FIG Development Fund for PAGU.




Russia announces cash rewards for London medalists

MOSCOW, February 4, 2012 – With one of the strongest governmental backings in the sports world, this year’s Russian Olympic and Paralympic medal winners are certain to receive due recognition upon their return from London.
According to an announcement posted on the website of the Russian Government, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to make provision for the reward funds to be handed to the medalists of this year’s Games.
The gold medal holders are set to receive 4 million rubles (about 130,000 USD). Silver medalists will be rewarded by 2,5 million (82,500 USD), while the owners of the bronze will receive 1,7 million (56,000 USD). Notably, the same scale applies to the holders of both Olympic and Paralympic silverware.
A special clause of the governmental order implies that the coaches and staff of the Russian national team will also be rewarded according to the achievements of their disciples. The Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy, along with the Ministry of Finance, the Olympic and Paralympic committees are set to decide on the matter.
The governmental funding reached the current level prior to the Beijing Olympics of 2008 and remarkably is one of the highest in the world. Aside from the cash bonuses awarded by the government, Russian athletes traditionally receive a number of other gifts, cash and otherwise, from regional authorities in recognition of their Olympic achievements.

Biography of George Nissen

Since this biography was written George Nissen saw the sport he loved on the Olympic stage, first at the Olympic test event in Sydney 2000 and then at two further Olympics. Sadly he passed away on the evening of Wednesday 7th April 2010 (at 7:10pm) in San Diego due to complications from a bout of pneumonia. His wife & family were in attendance at his bedside as he slipped away.

12th Junior Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics Asian Championships
Suphanburi (THA), March 11 – 15, 2012

Strong participation is expected at the 12th Junior Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics Asian Championships in Thailand’s Suphanburi Province, March 11-15, 2012.
Eighteen countries have confirmed their participation in the event, yielding an unexpected total of 348 participants and forcing organisers at the Thailand Gymnastic Association to change the location of both the competition hall and the hotel. Suphanburi Sports School and Songphanburi Hotel have been chosen to host the delegations.
Such a large number of participants is proof of a growing Asian interest in promoting Gymnastics and of a confidence in the Asian Gymnastics Union, which defied all odds and continues to raise the level of Gymnastics across Asia.

In the litigation involving the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and apparatus supplier Gymnova in Marseille (FRA), the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has found the appeal lodged by the manufacturer on August 24, 2011 admissible.
