Canada - Crouch clinches Gold at First Trampoline Qualifier

TORONTO, ON - Three-time Provincial Champion Keiran Crouch from North Bay Gymtrix, clinched the Gold medal this past weekend at the first of three Trampoline Qualifiers held at Skyriders Trampoline Place in Toronto.

Keiran hit all three of his routines and with a ‘Degree of Difficulty’ (D.D.) far superior to his competitors, finished more than eight full marks ahead of the Silver medalist.

This is Crouch’s second year in the National Open category. Scores from the season’s competitions will decide who will move on to National Championships in May and Crouch fully intends to be on that team.

Who is More Important? The coach or athelte?

Another great article by Greg Roe in gregroetrampoline.

"Hey Everyone,
Just took a break from studying for midterms to discuss a topic that seems to always get brought up in sports. Who is more important? The athlete or the coach? Seems like a straight forward “DUUUUUHHHHH” kind of answer – The athlete- , however sometimes I find that coaches forget that. I should say that all the opinions I express are my own and I am not trying to disrespect anyone or tell anyone to change their coaching styles or saying mine is better etc. I just have been thinking about it a lot lately and decided to share some of my views.
There are a lot of different coaching styles out there from the aggressive traditional European style. Not saying all Europeans are that way but that is the stereotype. There is the passive coach that allows the athlete to do what he or she wants most of the time and just helps out when the athlete asks for it. Some coaches expect the athlete to learn mostly on their own and will just monitor the progression. These styles and anything in between are used on athletes every day of training. So what one works best?"

George Nissen

George Nissen the Inventor of the Modern Trampoline

George Nissen, who is recognized as the inventor of the modern trampoline, died on April 8, 2010 at 96 years old from complications from pneumonia. He was born on February 1, 1914, in Blairstown, Iowa. He helped trampoline become a worldwide interest through his exhibitions and travels dreaming one day it would become an Olympic sport. While watching trapeze artists at a circus rebound on a safety net Nissen was inspired. He was a member of his high school’s tumbling team and also learned how to dive at the local YMCA. George thought that adapting the safety net concept could be really helpful to his training.

Trampoline Pundit new article - The Big Decision

The trampoline pundit new article it´s about Savannah Vinsant, that made history last summer placing 6th at the Olympic Games in Trampoline, the first American to ever make an Olympic final. At 19, she was also the youngest competitor. She trains in Lafayette, LA with Dmitri Poliaroush and Tara Guidry at Trampoline and Tumbling Express.

Savannah Vinsant"I remember my first day of trampoline practice like it was yesterday. I climbed on top of the four-foot high apparatus and was terrified. I kept my eyes on my coach Mr. Dmitri, who was at the far end of the end-deck mat telling me to push. Even though I was nervous and uncertain about the trampoline, I still felt so excited to be on there. As soon as I got off, I couldn’t wait to get back up and do it again!

The year 2000, while living in Lafayette, Louisiana, I began competing in trampoline. From my first national championships it became a dream of mine to compete in the Olympic Games someday."

Trampolinist Laura Gallagher appeal for leg warmers

Star trampolinist Laura Gallagher of Cheddar High Flyers is backing a charity challenge asking knitters for leg warmers. The knitted garments are great for trampoliners like the world and European medallist as they don't build up static and obviously keep legs warm.

The knit pattern is on www.supertramp.co.uk

All leg warmers returned to Laura's sponsor, Super Tramp, will be sold and the money given to the CF Trust. Valid until: Thursday, February 28 2013

The CF Trust says young cystic fibrosis sufferers like trampolining as part of their daily physiotherapy. The deadline for leg warmers is July 30.

UEG Trampoline in Slovenia and Croatia

UEG and the Slovenian Gymnastics Federation co-organised a well-attended workshop to promote Trampoline Gymnastics in the national territory. For this long term project, approved by the Executive Committee, the UEG Trampoline Technical Committee has prepared an intensive weekend of 20 hours of theoretical and practical sessions.
The participating coaches mainly came from other gymnastics disciplines and from Sports Sciences schools and universities. Up to 31 individuals joined the lectures developed by Martin Laws (GBR), Emma Suomalainen (FIN) and Miguel Vicente (ESP) during the weekend. Although most of the participants came from Slovenia, three coaches who represented Croatia also travelled to Ljubljana in order to get the applied knowledge to develop trampoline programmes also in their country.

How to Compete Better: Battle Anxiety

"Lately I have worked a lot of my technique and have found amazing improvements to my training. Now I have another problem, I am not a great competitor. So I have gone out and done some research to determine some methods in order to perform better under pressure.

Many athletes find it hard to focus their attention to the task at hand and find that they get “wrapped” up in the moment and negative thoughts overwhelm the individual. Anxiety comes from the feeling of nervousness that affects a person when they are threatened.

..what can you do?"

Olympic gold for Newman

BILLERICAY trampolinist Joshua Newman admitted he had to pinch himself after returning home from the Australian Youth Olympic Festival clutching gold.

The 14-year-old had to wait until the penultimate day of the Festival to get his adventure at Sydney's Olympic Park off the ground but it was a shaky start.

Newman looked on course for an individual medal only to fall off the trampoline in the final, meaning he finished off the podium in tenth.

But just hours later the Billericay School pupil was back in action, this time with compatriot Harry Newbold-Cozens in the synchronised event.

AYOF - China bounces to trampoline glory

Jingjing WenChina has lived up to its powerhouse reputation by winning gold in both the women and men’s individual trampoline competitions at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on Saturday.

Yujie Jia began China’s medal grab by bouncing to success in the women’s event, scoring 151.360 points. Falling just behind was her teammate Jingjing Wen with 148.720, despite finishing with a strong final routine of 53.840. New Zealand’s Alexa Kennedy (141.515) rounded out the podium.

In the men’s event, Changxin Liu’s second routine pushed him through to gold with a score of 58.065, which was the highest individual routine score of the competition. Yet it was his final performance that sealed the deal, stealing gold off New Zealand’s Dylan Schmidt in the very last routine of the day. China’s Quan Zhou (152.205) joined them on the dais.

Schmidt, who recently won the 2012 Pacific Rim Championships, still managed to complete the highest scoring difficulty routine in his second and third performances, with 15.00 in both.

The 16-year-old admitted that he was disappointed with silver, after performing three consistently solid routines, finishing overall with 158.715.

AYOF Training 2013

AYOF - Great Britain and New Zealand jump for joy

Great Britain’s male gymnasts had a golden evening in the synchronised trampoline.

On the bounce - Josh NewmanUnlike the format of the individual trampoline event, Harry Newbold-Cozens and Joshua Newman only had one opportunity to perform their winning routine, finishing with an impressive overall score of 45.400.

Their beautifully co-ordinated jumps and neatly handled landing resulted in a gold medal performance, beating the Australia Blue duo Aidan Collins and Dominic Clarke (44.100) and the Australia Green pair Joshua Ibrahim and Lachlan Banham (41.900) who recovered after falling out of unison mid-way through their routine.

Team GB proved to have strong support in the crowd, with the boys admitting the atmosphere of the Australian Youth Olympic Festival definitely helped them perform as well as they did.

“We had very good form today, and we can only get better,” Newbold-Cozens said.

The 14-year-olds believe their harmonisation is one of their greatest strengths despite Newman being on the shorter side of his partner admitting that he “hopes to grow a bit”.
