Gymnastics will be part of the sports participating at the first European Games which will be held in Baku/AZE in 2015.
Based on the positive feedbacks of its member federations and after a lively discussion at the last meeting of its Executive Committee, the European Union of Gymnastics voted in favour of the integration of Gymnastics in the first edition of the European Games provided that all UEG conditions are accepted and that our Championships are included respecting the current technical formats.
At the end of a long campaign aiming to include the event in the international calendar, Baku was chosen the 8th of December 2012 to host the inaugural European Games in 2015. This decision to hold the Games was taken at the 41st European Olympic Committees (EOC) General Assembly, which was attended by 49 National Olympic Committees.
"I'm absolutely thrilled that so many years of slogging have now come to fruition," EOC President Patrick Hickey told concerning the games once the proposal to hold the event was approved with 38 votes in favour, eight against and two abstentions.
It brings Europe into line with other continents which already have continental competitions, such as the Asian Games and Pan American Games.
